SAMARPANA
where music becomes reflection, inner alignment and an offering!
Welcome from Srividya
Sri Maatre Namaha! Sri Gurubhyo Namaha!
Namaskarams and Hello, everybody! Thank you for stopping by and I'm glad that you are taking the time to engage closely with my work. My name is Srividya and I am a practicing Carnatic musician. Throughout my musical journey, I have been fortunate to learn from many kind and generous teachers, at every stage of my learning. Whatever little I know and share here, is a Samarpana (an offering), to the Divine, my spiritual Guru, my parents, all my musical teachers and mentors, and to the innumerable artists and scholars I have long regarded as role models - both past and present- whose work I have admired intensely and whose explicit and implicit influence has guided and continues to guide my artistic journey.
I truly believe that we all are musical beings endowed with subtle sensitivity and unqiue voices that have the potential to help us rediscover our true selves. What is music, if not for the quest to call out to the beloved who lives deep within our hearts? What is sound, if not a reminder of the voice of the Creator?
Music is the path of love, not competition. It is not about singing better than others; it is about singing so you can connect with your own soul. Music-making is an opportunity to delve into our own hearts through the worship of sound (Nadopasana). It is this Maarga (path) that has been walked on by many great spiritual masters of the past (who also happen to be brilliant musicians!) such as Sri PurandaradAsa, Sri AnnamAchArya, Sri Oothukadu Venkatasubbier, Sri AruNagirinAthar, Sri TyAgarAja, Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar, Sri Shyama Sastry, and many others. Their life journeys and compositions give us the hope that through music one can come to find internal peace and serenity.
I welcome you to Samarpana to connect with your own voice and to build your own sacred relationship with music. My hope and prayer is for you to find your musical Self at Samarpana - which is unique, beautiful, and above all, a loving creation of the one true Creator!
I wish you the best in your musical journey!
Srividya
